Get to know Pediatrician Dr. Sylvia Trevino, who serves patients in Plano, Illinois.

A seasoned pediatrician, Dr. Trevino tends to children in need at Healthy Beginnings Pediatrics in Plano, Illinois. She said, “It’s a dream come true to be able to serve those in the town I call home.”

A graduate of Plano High School, Dr. Trevino received her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 2007. While there, she received the Humanism Honor Society Award, 2006-2007, which recognizes students who demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills, compassion, empathy, respect, integrity, exceptional commitment to service, as well as leadership in these areas.

Subsequently, she completed a pediatric residency and internship at Advocate Christ-Hope Children’s Hospital, Oak Lawn. In 2008, Dr. Trevino completed an internship in general surgery at Akron General Medical Center, Ohio, and in 2007, a year-long externship in anesthesia at the University of Illinois’ Anesthesiology Department. From 2010 to 2012, she worked at Advocate Christ Medical Center’s NICU, Oak Lawn. 

Dr. Trevino said, “My training, as well as my ability to communicate fluently in Spanish, has prepared me well to serve the diverse patient population in the area. I’m excited to have the opportunity to provide quality care to children, as if they were my own. I feel privileged to soon be a big part of their families’ lives.” 

Board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and a member of American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Trevino is certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), and Moderate Sedation. 

In the state of Illinois, she is affiliated with Rush Copley Medical Center, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Rush University Medical Center, and Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital.

When Dr. Trevino reflected on her experiences that ultimately led her to choosing pediatrics as her specialty, she said, “I was meant to be a pediatrician and I couldn’t be happier! I’m glad I followed my heart.”  

Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that involves the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends individuals be under pediatric care up to the age of 21. Pediatricians provide medical care to people ranging in age from newborns to young adults. They are trained to examine, diagnose, and treat children with a wide variety of injuries and illnesses through all of their developmental stages, as they grow and mature.
