Dr. Katie S. Artz, MD, FACS, has established herself as a leading general surgeon, offering her invaluable skills and knowledge to patients at Southwestern Surgery Associates, an affiliate of Arizona Community Specialists, in Tucson, Arizona. Since joining the esteemed practice in 2006, Dr. Artz has been a vital part of the team, specializing in a wide range of surgical procedures, including general, laparoscopic, and robotic surgeries such as hernias, ventral hernias, gallbladder, and breast surgeries.

Southwestern Surgery Associates prides itself on delivering top-notch surgical care in Southern Arizona, with a team of highly qualified surgeons who have undergone rigorous training and boast over a decade of practical experience. Each surgeon at the practice excels in their respective sub-specialties, covering areas such as colorectal, thyroid, lung, breast, hepato-pancreato-biliary, and advanced cancers.

A Tucson native, Dr. Artz is a distinguished alumna of Sabino High School and the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Her medical journey continued with an internship in obstetrics and gynecology at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center and a residency in general surgery at Texas A & M College of Medicine.

As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS), Dr. Artz exemplifies excellence in her field. She is committed to mentoring high school students in Tucson and Vail school districts and serves as an Associate Professor at the University of Arizona and a Professor at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, nurturing the next generation of medical professionals.

In addition to her roles at Southwestern Surgery Associates, Dr. Artz is affiliated with St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, Tucson Medical Center, and Camp Lowell Surgery Center. She recently joined the Arizona Medical Board, further expanding her impact on the medical community.

Dr. Artz’s dedication to patient care and medical education has not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by numerous accolades such as Patients’ Choice Award (2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2012), and On-Time Doctor Award (2018).

Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Artz finds joy in family life with her husband, Dr. Timothy Dixon, and their children, Austin and Scarlett. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, reading, running, and playing soccer. Her passion for volunteer work at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center, involvement in medical missions to Bolivia and Honduras, and commitment to community health initiatives truly set her apart as a compassionate and dedicated healthcare professional.
