Originally from Peru, Dr. Valdivia earned his medical degree from the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia School of Medicine. After relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at Henry Ford Hospital in 2003. During fellowship he received training in therapeutic biliary endoscopy (ERCP) and liver diseases.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in gastroenterology and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Professionally, he is an active member of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Gastroenterology Association. He has participated in research projects, published several journal articles and presented at local and national meetings.
