Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Florence C. Barnett, who serves patients in Roswell, Georgia.

Dr. Barnett, an accomplished neurosurgeon, is the Founder of Barnett Neurosurgery PC in Roswell, Georgia. She provides neurological surgical services and solutions for the treatment of brain, spine, carpal tunnel, and nerve diseases and disorders.

A 1992 graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Barnett went on to complete her training in general surgery / trauma at the Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. This was followed by residencies in general surgery and neurological surgery at the Medical College of Georgia in 1995 and 2000, respectively. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Kennesaw College and an Associate of Arts degree in Art History from Fleming College in Florence, Italy.

Specializing in neurological surgery with interest in cranium and spine procedures, the doctor is board-certified through the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose broad aim is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health. 

Bringing a wealth of clinical expertise to her profession, she is a member of Women in Neurosurgery, the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies, the American Medical Association, the AANS/CNS Section on Neurotrauma/Critical Care, the AANS/CNS Section of History, the Atlanta Medical Association, and the Georgia Neurosurgical Society (served as President from 2006-2007). She is also a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, certain types of birth defects, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.

In recognition of her academic and clinical expertise, Dr. Barnett has received numerous awards from Tri Beta Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha, and the Southern Medical Association (1998). She is also the recipient of the State Merit Award for Academic Excellence, Excellence in Neurosurgery – MCG, Best Resident Paper – Neurosurgery Section, Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2010, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018), Patients’ Choice Award (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018), Top 10 Doctor – Metro Area (2014), and Top 10 Doctor – State (2014).
