A 1992 graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Barnett went on to complete her training in general surgery / trauma at the Carraway Methodist Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. This was followed by residencies in general surgery and neurological surgery at the Medical College of Georgia in 1995 and 2000, respectively. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Kennesaw College and an Associate of Arts degree in Art History from Fleming College in Florence, Italy.
Specializing in neurological surgery with interest in cranium and spine procedures, the doctor is board-certified through the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose broad aim is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.
Bringing a wealth of clinical expertise to her profession, she is a member of Women in Neurosurgery, the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies, the American Medical Association, the AANS/CNS Section on Neurotrauma/Critical Care, the AANS/CNS Section of History, the Atlanta Medical Association, and the Georgia Neurosurgical Society (served as President from 2006-2007). She is also a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
