Get to know Family Physician Dr. Alfredo Lopez Jr., who serves patients in McAllen, Texas.

A board certified family physician, Dr. Lopez Jr. sees patients at his private practice, McAllen Family Practice Clinic, located in McAllen, Texas.

Establishing himself as an active mentor to future practitioners, he serves as an Assistant Professor for the UTHSCSA and McAllen Family Practice Residency program. 

Among his other roles, he can be found on staff at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, McAllen Medical Center, and the McAllen Heart Hospital. 

Serving as a leader and a mentor for the medical community, Dr. Lopez Jr. began his dedication to the medical field at Pan American University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He then went on to attend the University of Texas Health and Science Center San Antonio (UTHSCSA) Medical School, before completing his residency training at the UTHSCSA McAllen Family Practice Residency Program.

As a testament to his continued education, the doctor is board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Remaining up to date in his field, Dr. Lopez Jr. is an active member of the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, the Texas Statewide Family Practice Preceptorship Program, the Hidalgo-Starr County Medical Society, and the Border Health Caucus.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
