    You will want to avoid hard crunchy foods for about 10 days minimum. Avoid absolutely chips, crackers, popcorn, hard breads, hard raw vegetables. You can eat soft foods with out much firm structure. READ MORE

    There is a slight adjustment period for some people. More for some than others. The more you wear, function and talk with partial dentures the the quicker you adapt to them. READ MORE

  • Are you put to sleep for a bone graft?

    That depends on you and your surgeon.  Many bone graft procedures really do not merit the increased risks associated with sedation because they are so quick and easy. There are some that may at least warrant a discussion of the benefits of sedation for the procedure.  READ MORE

  • Is local anesthesia OK for tooth extraction?

    Yes. The majority of extractions are performed with local anesthesia only. If as the patient you are extremely nervous or have a major gag reflex, local anesthesia for routine extractions and most surgical extractions as well. Some wisdom teeth are better removed with the aid of sedation for patient comfort, keeping in mind the added risks including death. READ MORE

  • Can I drink alcohol with Invisalign?

    The best option if you are going to eat or drink anything other than water is to take the trays out and floss and brush before reinserting them.  This is because the trays can stain and be damaged.  Drinks other than water and milk are acidic and will dissolve your teeth, so leaving the acidic fluid in the trays around your teeth where the saliva is impeded from protecting them will increase your decay or cavities potential and probability.  Secondly, Milk has sugars that the bacteria can use to create an acid to attack and dissolve your teeth.  Most mixed alcohol drinks have added sugars and acidic compounds that give them the different flavors people like.   • How long does it take for a tooth extraction gap to close with Invisalign?

    That depends on the tooth being moved. Front teeth can move more quickly and there is less distance to move, so maybe within 2 months.  Back teeth are bigger and move through denser bone so it can take several months. READ MORE

    The level of discomfort on deep cleaning depends on the type of 'deep cleaning", severity of case and patient perception. Some patients need local anesthesia for these procedures sometimes and then not other times. READ MORE

  • What is the best painkiller after tooth extraction?

    Actually, the best pain killer for post tooth removal/extraction is ibuprofen. If more relief is desired then acetaminophen is added. Studies show that a regimen with both ibuprofen and acetaminophen works much better than narcotic pain killers.  READ MORE

  • How long does the pain last after a dental implant surgery?

    That depends on the surgical placement surgery. Like extractions(tooth removal), not all dental implant surgeries are the same. Many implant surgeries have little to no post-operative pain reported by the patient. We expect a minimum of 3 days post-op discomfort covered well by over-the-counter medications ibuprofen, acetaminophen (Tylenol), or both. READ MORE

  • Do swollen gums go away after braces?

    W hope so. Most of the time they will within six to eight months after the removal of the appliances if stringent home care and regular visits are followed. The best option is to prevent the growth from the start by ensuring you are following recommended home care instructions. If your gums have already increased in volume be sure you are following home-care instructions and regular 6-month re-care now and moving forward. Some patients are more reactive to plaque or bacteria and debris accumulation on teeth than others. The best place to start is to visit your dentist and discuss the issue.     It is not very predictable in many cases. Some cases are straight forward. So it depends on the case. Type, cause, location and surrounding and supporting structures of recession. Some times laser treatments are very successful but take several treatments. Some treatments involve grafts and can be very predictable. First step is to see your dentist for an exam and ask about treatments. If you desire a referral to a periodontist (specializes in gum treatments) ask your dentist. READ MORE

  • How long do stitches stay in after dental implant surgery?

    That depends on the type of suture used which depends on the surgical procedure. Generally, for tooth removals (extractions) a chromic gut suture is used which lasts 3-7 days. If it is a graft or implant often a longer-lasting suture like vicryl may be used which may last up to 30 days or as short as 2 weeks.   READ MORE

  • How long should a set of dentures last?

    We expect dentures to last patients approximately 10 years. The teeth and materials do not tend to do well for longer than that. You should within that 10-year period have the dentures relined every 3-5 years.  READ MORE

  • Can Invisalign cause gum swelling?

    It should not cause gum swelling.  There can be numerous different causes of gum swelling.  You should contact your treating dentist to have an exam as to why you have swelling. READ MORE

  • Do invisible braces work faster?

    Clear aligners and traditional braces take about the same time on average. Traditional braces are still considered by many to give the orthodontist more control for difficult more complex tooth movements. So in some cases it may be faster and better result with traditional braces. READ MORE

  • What happens if you get a cavity with Invisalign?

    If you get a cavity on a tooth while you are in Invisalign you will still need to have it restored. It may require your treating dentist/orthodontist to re-impress. READ MORE

  • Can I sleep wearing my partial dentures?

    If your partials extend from one side of the mouth (right) to the other side (left) then you can sleep with them in. However, it is recommended to take them out before bed to give your oral tissues a break from them. If you choose to sleep with them in, be sure to take them out for about 8 hours some other time during the day to let your tissue get some air and rest. Otherwise, you put yourself at high risk of oral infections from candida (Thrush) a fungal infection. READ MORE
