Can going to the chiropractor relieve stress?
Excellent question! One that I am glad to answer. Stress is a recognized variable in diagnosing, managing, and prognosis musculoskeletal conditions; chiropractic care successfully manages stress-related visceral requirements. It may be helpful for chiropractors to include stress management as a clinical care option. READ MORE
How can I realign my lower back at home?
Great question! The core focus of chiropractic practice and procedure is to address disturbed joint biomechanics and the associated effects on nerve system function. This is achieved through the skilled procedure termed the spinal adjustment or manipulation. Chiropractors (DCs) spend many years in graduate school to learn this art because they deal with sensitive structures involving the spinal column that protects the spinal cord. The spinal cord is an extension of the brain, and is part the central nervous system (CNS). Because of of the close relationship between the spine and the nervous system, abnormal or dysfunctional spinal movement can adversely impact nerve function affecting the communication between the brain and body. When a DC adjusts these dysfunctional segments and restores appropriate spinal movement patterns, this contributes to more appropriate sensory input to the brain and spinal cord. Chiropractic is an inherently conservative approach to healthcare, and the profession values its role as being the leading authority in spinal adjustments and manipulation. Archer Irby, DC is a leading chiropractor in Brooklyn, NY, who has over 25 years of chiropractic management and patient care. READ MORE
Are back posture correctors bad for you?
Great Question! When adequately managed by a licensed professional, many devices can aid in maintaining spinal alignment. In other words, a healthy spine that's nicely aligned is the bases for correcting poor posture. Coupled with a spinal device and exercises, in this case, a posture corrector supports the aligned spine expecting results to better posture. Dr. Archer Irby, DC, is a top chiropractor in Brooklyn, NY, with over 25 years of experience helping many clients improve their health. READ MORE
How many hours a day should you wear a posture corrector?
Great Question! It is never too late to improve your posture, even if it has been problematic for years. I am not a posture corrector expert nor do I endorse such products currently in the marketplace, but speak with a skilled physical medical professional before. As a chiropractor, 4-6 weeks, 4 hours a day is a good starting point, coupled with exercises. Dr. Archer Irby, DC is a top chiropractor in Brooklyn, NY with over 25 years of experience helping many clients improve their health. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor help with dislocated rib?
Great Question! When dealing with rib head dislocations or luxations, we must differentiate whether it is a muscular pain commonly associated with subluxations, or dislocations, wholly separated; both are painful, causing muscle spasms. Chiropractors are skilled in adjusting the spine, and since most ribs are attached to the spine, except for one, a chiropractor can help using learned extremity techniques and non-force adjustments. A complete evaluation involving X-rays is recommended before commencing care. Dr. Archer Irby, DC, is a top chiropractor in Brooklyn, NY, and has successfully treated such problems. READ MORE
How do you treat a dislocated knee cap?
As a doctor of chiropractic, I do not treat kneecaps, but I will offer advice in hopes that it guides you through the process. You can go to your medical physician or consultant as soon as possible. The consultant will quickly put a dislocated kneecap back into position (referred to as "reduction"). This may need to be performed under local or general anesthetic. Once the kneecap has been put back, you will need to rest the knee and use ice, compression, and elevation to control swelling. If strength and conditioning are required, then physical therapy may be recommended under such a medical consultant's guidance. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor really realign your spine?
Thank you, and great question, one I am happy to address. Chiropractic means "done by hand," and chiropractors often use their hands to adjust the spine using a controlled gentle thrust or a device. To be effective when addressing misalignment of the spine, it is prudent to take an x-ray of the spinal area (cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine) to begin the correction process. This process occurs over time with care, beginning with initial intensive care, corrective care, and elective or wellness care. Much like orthodontic braces for the teeth to help restore the proper position and motion of spinal bones, the chiropractor's hands or device is used to align the spine via regular spinal adjustments, and correction is made over time. As always, please speak with your local chiropractor so they can help you decide what is best for you and your spinal condition. READ MORE
How do you know if back pain is muscular?
Excellent question and thanks for inquiring. As a chiropractor, we are the most authoritative in addressing Neuro-musculoskeletal problems because our focus is the central nervous system, that’s protected by skeletal bones called vertebrae, and when stressed (physical, chemical, emotional) the result is Vertebral Subluxation Complex.
