Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Erica Collins, who serves the Centerville, Iowa area at Mercy Hospital.

Dr. Collins earned her medical degree in 1986 from Hahnemann Medical College, and then she completed her internship at Frankford Hospital. She continued her medical studies by undertaking a residency at Hahnemann University Hospital. Dr. Collins has been board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and holds an Iowa state medical license. Though she is currently retired, she has been affiliated with Mercy Hospital and previously specialized in the woman’s reproductive tract, pregnancy and childbirth. She had been in practice for over thirty years prior to her retirement and worked with patients throughout the central Iowa region. Dr. Collins is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, which allows her to stay up-to-date on developments in her field. She is able to relate to her patients as both a doctor and a woman, which helps her provide the most accurate and informational medicine possible. Obstetrician-gynecologists (OB/GYN) are physicians who possess special knowledge, skills and professional capability in the medical and surgical care of the femaFfamille reproductive system and associated disorders, enables them to serve as consultants to other physicians and as primary physicians for women. Obstetrics and gynecology is a broad and diverse branch of medicine, including surgery, management of the care of pregnant women, gynecologic care, oncology, and primary health care for women. Most OB/GYNs are generalists and see a variety of medical conditions in the office, perform surgery, and manage labor and delivery. Office practice consists of providing women with preventive examinations and other primary care and identifying gynecologic problems. Obstetrics and gynecology is a broad and diverse branch of medicine that emcompasses two subspecialities: obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system). Obstetrician-gynecologists (OB/GYN) are physicians who possess special knowledge, skills and professional capability in the medical and surgical care of the female reproductive system and associated disorders. This enables them to serve as consultants to other physicians and as primary physicians for women. Throughout her expansive career, Dr. Collins’s medical practice allowed her to see a wide variety of patients. She attributes her success to her ability to adjust to new situations and her dedication to the practice of obstetrics and gynecology. In her retirement, she enjoys spending time with her family and swimming.
