Get to know Family Practitioner Dr. Jacqueline S. Weaver-Agostoni, who serves patients in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

A respected and well-known family practitioner, Dr. Weaver-Agostoni is the Director of the Family Medicine Residency Program at UPMC Shadyside Hospital and Co-Chair of the UPMC GME ARQC Committee. She enjoys seeing patients of all ages, especially children.

The mission of the UPMC Shadyside Family Medicine Residency Program is to develop competent and confident family physicians to succeed in all domains of family medicine. They provide comprehensive training in a rigorous academic environment and pride themselves on the diversity of their residents, faculty, staff, and patients. They are committed to reducing health disparities through education, inclusive patient experiences, and the advancement of equity and social justice initiatives. Their graduates become patient allies and community partners through their training in evidence-based medicine and patient-centered care. 

Prior to her appointment as Director, Dr. Weaver-Agostoni served as the director of the Osteopathic Family Medicine Residency Program and director of Pre-Doctoral Education. She also sees patients at the CMU Student Health Center.

Originally from Indiana, PA, she graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1998 and earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002. She then completed her residency in family medicine at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital in 2005. 

Her desire to educate future family physicians led her to complete a two-year faculty development fellowship with the University of Pittsburgh Department of Family and Community Medicine, UPMC St. Margaret’s Hospital. During that time, she also earned her Master of Public Health degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

A Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (FACOFP), her other professional affiliations include the American Academy of Family Physicians and Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society.

With more than 18 years of experience in the field, Dr. Weaver-Agostoni is board-certified by both the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOBFP). She is also board-certification by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM).  The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties. The AOBFP is an organization that provides board certification to qualified osteopathic physicians who specialize in delivering comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, genders, and addressing all parts of the body.  Certification as an ABLM diplomate signifies specialized knowledge in the practice of lifestyle medicine and distinguishes a physician as having achieved competency in lifestyle medicine.   

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility. 

On a more personal note, when she is not seeing patients or teaching residents and medical students, Dr. Weaver-Agostoni enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, dog, and chinchilla. She also enjoys playing the piano, volunteering to help at her daughter’s school and with numerous other activities that her daughter is involved in, as well as dancing anytime the opportunity arises.
