An excellent general surgeon, Dr. Lane performs surgical procedures to treat conditions affecting the abdomen and related structures. He is in practice with Baptist Metro General Surgery in Memphis, Tennessee.

The general surgeons of Baptist Medical Group provide comprehensive care for their surgical patients. They are experienced performing a variety of general surgeries involving the endocrine system, gastrointestinal tract, colon, liver, pancreas, and rectum. Some minor surgeries can be performed in a doctor’s office and therefore do not require a hospital stay. Whenever possible, Baptist Medical Group general surgeons will choose less invasive methods before resorting to an invasive surgical procedure that may require a hospital stay.

Graduating with his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in 1988, Dr. Lane went on to perform his surgical residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He followed up with a fellowship in advanced laparoscopy and bariatric surgery at Cleveland Clinic Foundation Medical Center in Ohio.

Remaining at the forefront of his challenging specialty, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

Prior to his current endeavors, Dr. Lane served as the Director of Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery, and as the Associate Director of the Digestive Health Center at the Medical College of Georgia/Augusta University.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.
