Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Michael J. Hervey II, who serves patients in Phoenix, Arizona.
With a significant interest in full spectrum women’s health and family planning, Dr. Hervey II is an exceptional obstetrician-gynecologist who is the Owner and Operator of Premier Ob/Gyn, LLC in Phoenix, Arizona.
At his practice, he offers unsurpassed care to pregnant women, managing both high risks and low risk pregnancies. He also offers the full spectrum of adult gynecologic care from health care screenings to infertility screening to menopause. Specializing in minimally invasive surgery when appropriate, he is outspoken about women’s health care and demands only the best for his patients.
Being a product of a teenage pregnancy, Dr. Hervey II is ever so sensitive and compassionate for the plight of youth, and the challenges of unplanned pregnancies and family size. Therefore, he has taken an interest in being competent in all forms of birth control for women and vasectomies for men. He also continues to have interest in teaching residents, nurse practitioners, and midwives.
Born and raised in St. Louis Missouri, Dr. Hervey II spent a year in the United States Navy before attending Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where he studied Biology. He then attended Harvard University GSAS, Division of Continuing Education, where he received a master’s degree in Biology. While there, he worked at Beth Israel Deaconess and Brigham & Women’s Hospital on the National Emphysema treatment trial: his thesis was on Tracheomalacia.
Thereafter, he continued his education at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, where he was active in leadership, community service, and cancer research within the Department of Radiation Oncology. Upon graduation, he went on to complete his residency in family medicine at the University of Minnesota, Bethesda Clinic. There, he excelled, remaining active in leadership and research. He won several teaching awards, most notably, the Minnesota Academy of Family Medicine Resident of the Year Award, and was nominated for the National award.
With a passion for critical care and obstetrics, Dr. Hervey II applied for a fellowship in both fields at Maricopa Medical Center. Unfortunately, the fellowship closed shortly after he relocated to Phoenix. He took a job working on a rural Arizona Indian reservation, while applying for a residency in obstetrics and gynecology. He trained at the Phoenix Integrated Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Once again, he received numerous teaching awards, nominated and voted upon by peers and the Faculty.
In 2013, the doctor joined forces with Dr’s. Michael Medchill and Eugenia Politis. Together, they provided safe and efficient care to the most complex and high-risk patients. Since joining Dr. Medchill’s practice, Dr. Hervey has branched out into developing a robust integrated women’s health care model. He has led hospital administrators, is in discussion regarding facility design, as well as has aligned with multiple birthing centers (Baby Moon Inn) and Midwifery practices to provide a stronger, yet softer patient touch. He has also explored deep relationships with Bayless HealthCare to support the mental health and primary care of women throughout their pregnancy and beyond. From these explorations, Dr. Hervey II, together with his wife; Ellie Tan, CNM, WHNP-BC, developed Premier Ob/Gyn, LLC. Ellie Tan has worked diligently to train additional Midwives since 2015. Premier Ob/Gyn, LLC has trained and welcomed Melissa Christenson CMN, WHNP-BC as of late 2019.
A member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Academy of Family Medicine, and the American Medical Association, the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The ABOG is a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada.
