Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Thomas P. Nowak, who serves patients in Hudson, Florida.

Dr. Nowak, a board certified neurosurgeon, practices at the Bonati Spine Institute in Hudson, Florida. His clinical focus encompasses laser neurosurgery, advanced trauma life support, and research on brain tumors.

Previously, Dr. Nowak has held roles as Medical Director of Neurosurgery, Assistant Chief of Neurosurgery, and Staff Neurosurgeon at leading medical centers in Fresno, California. Additionally, he has contributed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

In regards to his educational background, Dr. Nowak graduated with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, his Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Molecular Biology from the University of California, San Diego, and his Medical Degree from the University of California, Davis School of Medicine. 

Furthering his training, he performed his surgical internship at the University of California Irvine Medical Center and Long Beach VA Hospital, followed by his neurosurgical residency at Hahnemann University Hospital.

Dr. Nowak is a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose primary purposes are to conduct examinations of candidates who voluntarily seek certification and to issue certificates to those who meet the requirements of the board and satisfactorily complete its examinations. In addition, he holds certifications in Laser Neurosurgery, Advanced Trauma Life Support, and Fluoroscopy.

Actively involved with professional organizations, Dr. Nowak is an esteemed member of the New York Academy of Sciences, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the International Society for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy, the Association for Brain Tumor Research, and the American Chemical Society.

Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, certain types of birth defects, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.
