Yaser Abdel-Alim Metwally, MD, FRCSC, is a seasoned orthopedic surgeon who diagnoses and treats patients at the Advanced Joint Replacement Center of Southern Oregon in Medford, Oregon. Dr. Metwally is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery. With over three decades of experience in his field, Dr. Metwally is affiliated with several medical centers in the Medford area, including Providence Medford Medical Center and Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Prior to his current endeavors, he worked as a practicing orthopedic surgeon at Southern Oregon Orthopedics, Inc. from October 2001 until May 2017.
In 1986, he earned his medical degree from Ain Shams University, Faculty of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt. There, he also completed his master’s degree in orthopedic surgery, as well as his internship, and residency in the field. Upon relocating to the United States, Dr. Metwally went on to complete his residency in general surgery at the University of Illinois Metropolitan Group in Chicago, followed by his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He also completed his fellowship in reconstructive surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Oregon Medical Association, and the Jackson County Medical Society. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada, as well as board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Yaser Abdel-Alim Metwally, MD, FRCSC, attended the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams Universityin Cairo, Egypt, and received his medical degree in 1986. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency (1986-1991) and Master’s Degree in Orthopedic Surgery at the same teaching venue (1990) prior to starting working at El-Shafa Specialized Hospital (1991 – 1993). Upon relocating to the United States, Dr. Metwally served his general surgery residency (PGY I-II) at the University of Illinois Metropolitan Group Hospitals in Chicago, IL (1993-1995). Furthermore, he conducted his orthopedic surgery residency (PGY III-VI) at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada (1996-2000). In addition, he completed his fellowship training in reconstructive surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN (2000-2001). Dr. Metwally received board certification in orthopedic surgery from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
