Food as Medicine?
Before modern medicine, humans have had to rely on nature to stay healthy and treat disease. We have had to eat foods that benefit us, and avoid foods that hurt us. It has been increasingly difficult to do this in our modern, fast-food, convenience-food world. We have an abundant supply of...

What Is Detox?
What is detox? Is it necessary? Is it a good idea? What is the goal? Is it a scam? Does it work? All of these questions are legitimate and should be asked. I have seen many “detox” products that make claims that sound too good to be true. And most of the time, that is the case. So, how do we...

How do you know if your sciatic nerve is pinched?
The best way to know if your sciatic nerve is pinched is to have it evaluated by a health care professional. Typical symptoms of a pinched sciatic nerve include numbness or tingling in your lower leg, or weakness in your lower leg. Either way, if you are having pain, your body is telling you something is wrong, and you need to get it checked out. READ MORE

Yes, they can if you there is no reason not to. Can I see a massage therapist and a chiropractor for shoulder pain?
Depending on the reason for the shoulder pain, yes. If the pain is musculoskeletal in nature, chiropractic and massage therapy is great. If it is because of heart problems or liver/gallbladder issues, maybe not, unless the they have training to deal with those issues. Either way, a chiropractor should take a detailed history and do an extensive examination to uncover the underlying cause of the pain, and make appropriate recommendations. READ MORE

What does a chiropractor do on the first visit?
That really depends on the chiropractor. A good chiropractor will go over you health history and do a thorough examination that may include x-rays or other tests. Some chiropractors will treat on the first visit, others will not, depending on your complaints, history and what the examination uncovers. READ MORE
Can a chiropractor put your shoulder back in place?
Your question is tricky. Chiropractors, in my opinion, have the training and the know-how to reduce a dislocated shoulder. HOWEVER, in most states, that is outside the scope of practice and must be done by an MD. READ MORE
Can chiropractic help with depression?
This is a difficult question, because chiropractors are not psychotherapists, which may be a better route. Chiropractors can, however, make lifestyle recommendations, like exercise and diet that may be helpful. Chiropractors do not treat depression. The issues that chiropractors do treat can lead to increased stress which may help. Many chiropractors may refer out to a psychologist or counselor that they trust. Regardless, depression is a serious issue that needs to be evaluated by a health care professional that will take a good history and make appropriate recommendations. The more professionals that are involved, perhaps the better. READ MORE

Can chiropractic care worsen a herniated disk?
There are always risks to any medical procedure. The studies that I have read promote chiropractic treatment of herniated discs. Chiropractic treatment is inherently low in risk, but it is never risk-free. A good chiropractor will take a detailed history, do a thorough examination that may include imaging, and will then determine if you are a good candidate for chiropractic treatment. READ MORE

What natural supplements can you take with chiropractic care?
In order to determine which supplements will be useful to you, your chiropractor should take an extremely detailed health history, and do a thorough examination that may include blood labs and urinalysis. Unfortunately, most supplements that are sold in stores are low quality and expensive. READ MORE
How do you self align your hips?
If you feel like you need your hips aligned, there is probably something not working correctly, and you should go see your chiropractor to figure out what it is. There could be a muscle imbalance, or joint dysfunction that needs to be addressed. For the most part, I do not recommend anyone self-aligning. Chiropractors go through years of training, schooling, and practice in order to perfect the art of adjusting. READ MORE
How long does it take to fix bad posture?
It only take a second to correct your bad posture. Sit up straight. Make sure your ears are directly over your shoulders and your shoulders are over your hips. If you are standing, make sure your hips are directly over your knees and ankles. That's it. Maintaining that posture may be more difficult that it sounds, especially if you have weak postural muscles. The more you practice, the easier it gets. If you think you have a problem, visit your chiropractor. READ MORE
Does the posture corrector work?
I never recommend the posture corrector. Yes, it can help, but if you rely on it, your postural muscles will weaken, which will make the problem worse. The best way to improve posture is to strengthen those muscles. If you think you have a problem with posture, visit your chiropractor. READ MORE
