Get to know Family Physician Dr. John Friedline, who serves patients in Brawley, California.

Dr. Friedline is a board-certified family physician and clinical pathologist with Imperial Valley Family Care Medical Group in Brawley, California. He provides a range of acute, chronic, and preventive medical care services, including routine checkups and illness diagnosis, treatment, and management. His skills also contribute to disease diagnosis and treatment through knowledge gained by the laboratory application of the biologic, chemical, and physical sciences.

Imperial Valley Family Care Medical Group, is a physician’s multi-specialty group established in 1995. With 20 locations throughout the communities of Calexico, El Centro, Imperial and Brawley, along with over 50 physicians and medical practitioners, the practice’s primary goal is to provide a broader base of medical care for the entire Imperial Valley. 

A 1980 graduate of The Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, Dr. Friedline went on to complete his residency in family medicine at UPMC – Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He later completed a second residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Fisher Institute of Pathology of Shadyside Hospital, where he was the Chief Resident in the fourth and fifth years of the program. Wanting to further his training, he completed a fellowship in hematopathology at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan and a diploma course in Tropical Medicine at West Virginia University.

Among his various achievements, the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties. He is also board-certified in clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology, whose mission is to serve the public and advance the profession of pathology by setting certification standards and promoting lifelong competency of pathologists.

To date, he remains a member of several professional organizations, including the Southern Medical Association, the American Chemical Society- Division of Medicinal Chemistry, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.   

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility. 

Clinical pathology is a medical specialty that is concerned with the diagnosis of disease based on the laboratory analysis of bodily fluids, such as blood, urine, and tissue homogenates or extracts using the tools of chemistry, microbiology, hematology, and molecular pathology. Clinical pathologists mainly examine body fluids, including blood, urine, and bone marrow. They may conduct toxicology tests seeking the presence of illegal drugs and poisons, run a hospital blood bank, and test patients’ immune functions to detect allergies and toleration of transplant organs.
