The best way to combat obesity?
Eat fewer calories and walk for 20-30 minutes most days of the week. Also, avoiding any "food" that is "WHITE" will definitely lead to weight loss (i.e., bread, flour, potatoes, sugar, pasta, dairy, etc.). This also means AVOID about anything sold at a 7-11 or other "convenience store." READ MORE

Does diabetes make one feel very sleepy?

I have a small growth around my ankle. Could it be serious?
Unfortunately, it is impossible to give you an optimal answer without seeing the growth and examining you. BUT -- if the lesion is NEW and seems to be getting larger, then the odds of it being something more serious is INCREASED. Therefore, I would advise you to have your primary MD examine you, or go to a dermatologist and have a real expert examine you in order to be 100% CERTAIN it is nothing serious. READ MORE
How do you predict when to have sex if you have PCOD?
You don't! Thus, if you continue having unprotected sex, or if she does not take the "pill," then she COULD get pregnant. Even if she did NOT have PCOD, the "rhythm method" (which I guess you are doing) is NOT a real good birth control method! READ MORE
What happens when you are taking too many probiotics?
I would NOT waste your money on "store bought" probiotics--as there is NO GOOD SCIENTIFIC DATA that they do any good in healthy people. Eating yogurt is just fine. READ MORE
Should I consider taking probiotics regularly?
If you are healthy, I do NOT think there is real good scientific medical evidence that taking "store bought" PROBIOTICS does much for you. READ MORE

The SIMPLEST thing you can do is drink enough water daily to KEEP YOUR URINE CLEAR! My husband works in a pathology lab. Should be undergoing some tests due to occupational hazards?
He needs to do EXACTLY what the chief of the lab mandates that all staff do! ANY certified lab in the USA with have STANDARDIZED NORMS that all staff must follow in order to be employed there. One example of this is to wear UNIVERSAL PRECAUTION gowns/gloves/masks, etc., to protect against certain infections and to have HEPATITIS IMMUNIZATION--as this is a not uncommon infection that can be transmitted by blood/needle sticks in the lab. READ MORE
How are electrolyte imbalances treated?
You must FIRST know just what "electrolyte" is out of balance. Common ones include high and low SODIUM levels, high and low POTASSIUM levels, high and low MAGNESIUM levels, and the same for CHLORIDE, BICARB, PHOSPHATE, and CALCIUM. So, have a talk with the doctor and have him/her explain the problem. Any good MD will GLADLY explain the situation to a son or daughter and provide the relevant diagnosis and treatment. READ MORE
Can you feel OK after getting hurt in a car accident and then feel worse the next day?
it is VERY common for the PAIN from any musculo-skeletal trauma to be DELAYED for a number of days or rarely even weeks. It is unlikely that you have any potentially fatal injury (unless you are having worsening ABDOMINAL PAIN, which can be due to a ruptured SPLEEN or BOWEL and that could potentially be fatal). But, it very common for herniated discs or other anatomic injuries of the spine to result in DELAYED neck and/or back pain and other associated symptoms. A visit to your MD (or to an urgent care center) should answer any questions you might have and provide any necessary tests and/or treatment. READ MORE
Is there medication that can cure IBS?
There is NO cure for IBS. BUT there are many treatment options to reduce symptoms. If diarrhea is prevalent, OTC medicines like Immodium, kaopectate, or even Pepto Bismol can be tried. Also, avoid any "trigger" foods that may cause diarrhea. Stress management (with or without medication) may also help. If the diarrhea remains intractable, newer drugs like VIBERZI or XIFAXIN can be prescribed. A frank discussion with your doctor (ideally a knowledgeable Internal Medicine specialist or a Gastroenterologist) will help develop a customized treatment plan. But keep in mind that treatment will be "trial and error" until an effective regimen is found. If constipation is prevalent, INCREASED DIETARY FIBER, INCREASED FLUID INTAKE, COFFEE, PROBIOTICS, and EXERCISE may help. If symptoms persist, then OTC drugs like SENNA, MIRALAX, or MOM will likely help. If CRAMPS and BOWEL SPASMS are frequent, drugs like HYOCINE, CIMETROPIUM, or BENTYL may help. READ MORE
