Get to know Psychiatrist Dr. Kamal Bijanpour, who serves patients in California.

Dr. Bijanpour is a board-certified psychiatrist who is currently serving patients at his private practice in California. Additionally, he can be found on staff at Garfield Medical Center in Monterey Park, California, as well as at La Palma Intercommunity Hospital in La Palma, California. 

Prior to his current endeavors, Dr. Bijanpour served patients in acute psychiatric hospitals, long-term care facilities, and outpatient private clinics. He also studied and worked abroad in Tanzania, where he tended and treated local villagers who had no access to modern medicine. 

Having established himself as a prominent professional in the field, Dr. Bijanpour is revered for his outstanding contributions to the field of psychiatry. Throughout his career, he has attained extensive expertise in the areas of geriatric psychiatry, which includes post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, obsessive-compulsive disorders, depressive disorders, dementia, and more.

Dr. Bijanpour earned his medical degree from Radboud University – the Faculty of Medical Sciences. He then went on to complete his residency in psychiatry at the Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center. 

Dr. Bijanpour is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.

Dr. Bijanpour speaks Dutch and Farsi in addition to English.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to diagnosing, preventing, and treating mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists are medical doctors, unlike psychologists, and must evaluate patients to determine whether their symptoms are the result of a physical illness, a combination of physical and mental ailments, or strictly psychiatric. They are qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems. 

In his spare time, Dr. Bijanpour enjoys boxing, doing martial arts, scuba diving, and spending the weekends with family and friends.
