Get to know Radiologist Dr. Amjad Safvi, who serves patients throughout the State of Illinois.

A board-certified interventional radiologist, Dr. Safvi is the Medical Director at Advanced Vein Treatment and Cosmetic Center and Lake Zurich Open MRI, working with patients in Lake Zurich, Illinois and Chicago Ridge, IL  and serves as the Chief Radiologist at Radiology Reports Online. He takes pride in taking care of his patients and their families, and puts patients’ needs at the forefront and designs treatment plans to provide the most effective and quickest relief.

With over 26 years of experience in the medical field, the doctor brings a wealth of knowledge to the field of venous and cosmetic medicine, as well as a commitment to remaining on the cutting edge of treatments and procedures so that he can continue to give his clients top quality service.

Back in the early days of his academic career, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1990 and graduated with his medical degree from the University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1994. He then went on to receive his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the  University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1996.

Subsequently, Dr. Safvi completed his first year of radiology residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, before returning to Chicago and completing the remaining years at Northwestern University. He completed his fellowship in interventional radiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 2001.

Licensed to practice medicine in over 20 states in the US, the doctor is double board-certified in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, and phlebology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine(ABVLM). The ABR is a not-for-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.

Remaining up to date in his field, he is an active member of the American College of Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, and the Society of Interventional Radiology.

In 2005, Dr. Safvi became interested in vein treatments after he started his practice because his specialty of interventional radiology dealt directly with vascular abnormalities. Varicose vein treatment as a specialty was just being developed at that time and he took a keen interest in developing his practice to include venous pathology along with the arterial pathology he was trained in already. He became board-certified in venous medicine among the first batch of physicians who were certified to treat venous disease.

Among his prior clinical appointments, he has been affiliated with Advocate Christ Medical Center (2017 to present), Advocate Good Shepard Hospital (2022 to present), Amita Health St Joseph Hospital Elgin ( 2009 to present), Metrosouth Medical Center (2009-2018), Central Illinois Radiology Associates (2007-2008), and Kankakee Radiology Associates (2001-2007).

Radiology refers to the field of medicine that uses non-invasive imaging scans to diagnose a patient. A radiologist is a physician who uses imaging methodologies to diagnose and manage patients and provide therapeutic options.

Among his various accolades, Dr. Safvi has been the recipient of the General Assembly Scholarship, Arrie and Estelle Johnson Bamberger Scholarship, James Scholar Award for outstanding engineering students, Eta Kappa Nu (Electrical Engineering Honor Society), McCourtney Foundation Scholarship, Fred S. Bailey-YMCA Scholarship, Marine Bank Scholarship, Elks Foundation Scholarship, and Urban League Scholarship. He also participates in medical charity work through Imamia Medics International, an International medical organization akin to Doctors Without Borders.

Happily married, he and his wife have three young children. When he is not working, he enjoys traveling and seeing new places, riding his bike, spending time with family, and taking care of horses. In the past, he used to work on a 210 square mile ranch in New Mexico taking care of horses and cattle and knows how to rope steers.
