About
LTC(R) Christopher J. Colombo, MD, MA, FCCM, FACP, concluded his distinguished 20-year tenure in the Army with a focus on critical care medicine. His last assignment was as the Chief of the Department of Virtual Health and TeleCritical Care at Madigan Army Medical Center, after previously serving as the special projects officer for operational virtual health at the Regional Health Command Atlantic. Transitioning to civilian life, he has embraced various roles, including critical care physician, executive coach, and consultant for health technology research and development firms. He has also been the Principal Investigator for several million dollars in federal research grants that explore the effects of telemedicine and simulation technology in challenging operational settings. LTC Colombo played a pivotal role as PI on one of the final four teams developing the National Emergency TeleCritical Care Network (NETCCN) in response to COVID-19 and other emergencies. He was the site PI for the ACTT trials at MAMC and contributed as a curriculum developer and instructor for critical care courses for the Society of Critical Care Medicine, as well as for African partner nations. During his deployment for Operation Iraqi Freedom, he served as Chief of Critical Care for the 10th Combat Support Hospital and acted as the Theater Consultant for Critical Care. His previous roles included Chief of Critical Care Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency Program Director at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, along with Associate Program Director for Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at the National Capital Consortium.

What do you attribute your success to?
- Having good role models. My mom came to the United States from Italy not speaking a word of English when she was 10 and became very successful. My dad put himself through college working as a handyman in the summers, and now has his PhD in Polymer Chemistry and works in research and development. They both modeled the long view of sticking to your values. They helped me understand the idea that failure happens and it's not the end, but just another step.
