What does a neurologist do after a stroke?
Hi there! A neurologist evaluates the patient’s hospital records to determine what kind of stroke the person had. Two main types are ischemic and hemorrhagic. They have different treatment options. Then ultimately the neurologist and patient develop an ongoing plan to help reduce the patient’s risk of having another stroke. This includes possibly blood thinners in the case of an ischemic stroke, cholesterol lowering medication, optimizing, blood pressure control, diabetes control if the person is diabetic, smoking cessation, as well as referring the patient to any kind of therapy they may need to help them fully recover from the stroke (physical, occupational or speech therapy, for example). These are some of the things that I can say that a neurologist would do as part of post-stroke therapy. There may be some other treatments that a neurologist may offer. These are the ones that I am aware of as a family physician. READ MORE

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
Every year in March, Dr. De Aza attends a 50-hour Primary Care Conference offered by Harvard University where she receives updated medical training, in addition to the continuing medical education credits required to maintain Family Medicine Board certification annually. She also has access to virtual consultations with board-certified specialists if seeing a specialist is not possible in a timely manner.
Happily married, Dr. De Aza has a wonderful husband and two beautiful, energetic children. She practiced Shotokan karate as a teenager and is currently learning Gracie Jiu Jitsu from her husband. They love to travel, cook, bake, spend time outdoors, and visit Disney World.
