I have osteoporosis and a spine fracture. How long will it take for me to be fully cured?
The healing time is at least 3 months. You will need immobilization of the spine. You will also need treatment for the osteoporosis due to continued high risk of fracture. READ MORE
I recently recovered from a fractured finger. But after removing the cast, the finger still seems swollen. What could be the reason?
It can be normal for the finger to be swollen for up to a year. But if the fracture damaged the joint there could be permanent swelling or problem with the joint. Swelling can be there as well due to stiffness. READ MORE

At what age should my wife check her bone density levels?
It is good to get a baseline DEXA scan at 40 years old. Before that she should have her vitamin D2/D3 levels and calcium levels check to make sure that they are normal. If her mother developed osteoporosis she is more likely to get it. READ MORE

You can develop tendinitis in the fingers and the thumb and strain in the neck as well. Using the phone cannot make your muscles weaker but using the phone too much and not exercising can. Use the phone less. READ MORE

After a knee surgery how long should one wait before resuming any sport?
It depends on which ligament was repaired. If the ACL was repaired it is six months. If a collateral ligament repair it is six weeks with a knee brace. READ MORE
Can a fracture during childhood cause problems 10 years later?
Yes, if the fracture extended through the joint and/or if the fracture healed in the wrong position, especially in the elbow. He will need an X-ray and an evaluation for the elbow symptoms, especially if there's no new injury. READ MORE
Are bone degenerative diseases hereditary?
Osteoarthritis is a genetic degenerative joint disease that is common in family members. You cannot prevent any osteoarthritis in the joints. The most important thing is to stay strong and flexible. Is hip surgery advisable for an 80 year old?
If the patient is in good health and has been cleared for surgery, an 80-year-old can have surgery. But it depends on the patient's activity level before the fracture; if minimal to no weight-bearing before, then probably not advisable. READ MORE

The fracture will still take at least 3 months to heal, starting with partial weight bearing and physical therapy. May need a bone stimulator to speed up the healing. READ MORE
Does a fracture take longer to heal when you have diabetes?

Despite vitamin D supplements I continue to have pain in my knees. Why?
Vitamin D does not help with pain. It can help strengthen your bones, along with calcium, but has nothing to do with pain control. READ MORE
Should I take calcium supplements at the age of 35 to prevent osteoporosis?
It is better to start calcium supplementation while in your teens. But you should be taking at least 600 mg of calcium daily along with dairy products and 1000-2000 IU of Vitamin D3 daily. It can never guarantee that you will not get osteoporosis, that is mostly based on genetics and menopause. Weight bearing exercises and resistance training can also help. READ MORE
My right ankle seems to be swollen but there is no pain. Should I try ice therapy to reduce the swelling?
