Dr. Mark S. Perlsweig, MD
Adolescent Psychiatrist | Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
1750 El Camino Real Suite 401 Burlingame CA, 94010About
Dr. Mark Perlsweig has practiced Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in Burlingame, CA in the heart of Silicon Valley for the past thirty years. The only office he has ever known has a view of the San Francisco Bay and San Francisco International Airport. He has been a witness to the lives of many people and their families, writing prescriptions on triplicate papers and sharing YouTube videos with teenagers. In the office he has played Nerf basketball, Nerf baseball and Minecraft. He has plastic toy telephones with dials that no child alive today can identify. Outside his windows he has seen the world perservering through the tech boom and crash, the empty skies of 9/11, the fear and turbulence of a pandemic, and the passing of Kurt Cobain, Joe Strummer, Joey Ramone, Amy Winehouse and Prince.
His patients have included prominent individuals in the retail, biotech, technology, financial, entertainment and sports industries. Most of his patients suffer from a complex combination of challenging psychological stressors and mixed biological mental health conditions. His patients have usually experienced many previous failures with several doctors, therapists and medications. He has a highly active treatment style designed to educate patients about their medical conditions and empower them to participate in their healing process.
There is no staff on hand in the office. Dr. Perlsweig types his own notes, answers his own phone and listens and talks with his own patients. The office is steeped in old 1930's furniture gifted to him by his grandmother. She had emigrated from the Ukraine through Ellis Island in the years before the furniture was even made. As he enters the final years of his medical practice, he fondly recalls the wisdom of his favorite Rabbi saying, "What you practice, you shall become." He hopes to pass on this wisdom and his very original mix of medicine, play, healing and song to the unique souls whose paths have led to this particular door.
