Get to know Pain Management Specialist Dr. Richard M. Paicius, who serves patients in California.

Named one of Orange County’s Best Doctors, Dr. Paicius is the Founder of Newport Beach Headache and Pain in California. Specializing in interventional pain management, he is recognized internationally for his work in spinal cord stimulation. Having had academic positions at UCLA and UC Irvine in anesthesiology and pain management, he has built a multi-disciplinary team in Newport Beach to address the varied needs of pain patients.

“Over the last several years, many exciting, new treatments have become available for the treatment of chronic pain. Where historically spinal injections and medications were our foundation, newer minimally invasive procedures and the introduction of regenerative medicine have made treatment increasingly safe and more effective” as stated by the doctor.

After graduating medical school from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in 1983, Dr. Paicius completed his internship and residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He earned extended qualifications by the American Board of Anesthesiology, including board certification.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Pain Medicine, whose mission is to improve the quality of pain medicine, he has taught hundreds of physicians advanced techniques in interventional pain management.

Over his 30 years of practice, Dr. Pacius has developed innovative pain-relieving techniques that have directly improved the lives of thousands of patients. In his current capacity, he is the Founder & Medical Director of Orange County Pain and Wellness in Santa Ana, which is dedicated to retraining individuals suffering from chronic pain through the intensive application of physical strengthening, cognitive psychological restructuring, and health and medication management to achieve highest levels of long-term physical and emotional freedom.

Pain management is a branch of medicine employing an interdisciplinary approach for easing the suffering and improving the quality of life of those living with chronic pain. A pain management specialist is a doctor who specializes in pain medicine, focusing on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain.

In honor of his clinical excellence, Dr. Paicius is the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2010, 2011, 2018) and Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2010, 2011). He was also listed in the Orange Coast magazine as a ‘Physician of Excellence’ in 2005.
