Can you replace a crown with a veneer?
Replace no, but sometimes we can place a veneer on top of an old crown! But usually it does not look good. READ MORE
How many times a year should kids get a teeth whitening?
Whitening means bleaching teeth and makes them whiter, which we do not recommend before age 14. Dental cleaning, on the other hand, should be at least twice a year, and for those who do not have good dental hygiene and/or have a lot of plaque build-up, it's recommended 3 or even 4 times per year. Please check with her dentist if your daughter needs to improve her dental hygiene! READ MORE
Should I have my teeth cleaned more than twice a year?
That is a very good idea! We recommend 3 to 4 times a year for those who have a lot of plaque buildup. READ MORE
Can my silver fillings be replaced with white fillings?
Of course! They can be replaced by Composite (white) filling or Porcelain (Inlay or Onlay) restoration. READ MORE
Can flossing causes spaces between my teeth?
Absolutely NOT! READ MORE
How often do you need your teeth cleaned?
Twice a year is the standard of care. But depends on your gums and teeth situation it could be up to 4 times a year, every 3 months! Please consult it with your dentist. READ MORE
Every time I get a new toothbrush, my gums end up bleeding. Is there something wrong?
If it keeps bleeding, it means you are irritating your gums. Please ask your dentist/hygienist to educate you on how to brush correctly! If it stops bleeding, it means your toothbrush is hard, so change it to medium or soft! Regardless, please have your dentist check your gums in your next recall appointment! READ MORE
My daughter occasionally eats candy. Will this damage her teeth?
EVERYDAY??? Of course it does, unless she brushes her teeth right after eating candy ;) Candy is a good source of food for the bacteria that causes cavities! Please replace them with something healthier, do it gradually and with a positive reinforcement! I'm a mom too, I know it's so hard to do that but if you don't stop her now she will end up having lots of problems in her permanent teeth! Good luck! READ MORE
How often should a 7-year-old go to the dentist?
As soon as the permanent teeth start erupting (around 6 to 7 years old) they should get checked every 6 months! And please check your son's brushing and flossing from time to time ;) READ MORE
Does a wisdom tooth need to be removed?
It depends! We highly recommend removing the wisdom teeth because of several reasons. If it's not straight, if there is a pocket that causes food get caught between the wisdom tooth and the adjacent, or if there is a piece of gum on top of it, etc! Please check it out with your dentist and good luck! READ MORE
What causes bleeding gums in kids?
Most of the time it's due to brushing hard and irritating the gum by a toothbrush! Please make sure the toothbrush is soft, and he (or you), brushes his teeth at least 2 times per day, before going to bed and after waking up! If he experiences the same amount of bleeding after a couple of weeks, please consult this matter with his dentist and/or primary care to make sure it's not due to Vitamin C deficiency?! Best of luck! READ MORE
Does clove oil really work in easing tooth pain?
I'm not sure if it does?! Please check with your dentist, pain is just a signal your body is giving you! By taking some X-Rays and clinical exam, your dentist will definitely find out what has caused the pain?! Best of luck! READ MORE
Are electric toothbrushes any better for the teeth?
Electric toothbrushes are as good as regular ones IF you use them properly! The best one is Rotadet that stops as soon as you apply extra pressure on it! Also it doesn’t irritate your gum. Please ask your dentist if you can buy it from them since it’s not available over the counter. Have fun brushing (first flossing) with ur new toothbrush! READ MORE
I had some bleeding in my gums while brushing. Could it be serious?
There are some reasons for your gum bleeding while brushing: 1- You irritated you gum by brushing harder than usual! 2- You have not seen your dentist regularly (every 6 months) and plaque is accumulating there that causes gum irritation and thereafter gum bleeding! 3- You are pregnant and due to hormone changes you are experiencing gum bleeding! 4- You have started a new medicine that one of its side effect is gum bleeding! 5- You had something hot, or scratched your gum by something sharp (like chips or hard cracker). Please contact your dentist if you think none of the above could be the reason. READ MORE
How should I select my toothpaste?
First and most it has to have Fluoride! Fluoride (fluorine) is a base and can prevent acid to damage tooth enamel. If you have sensitivity to cold, you should ask your dentist prescribe a special toothpaste that has a higher amount of fluoride! If you don’t have sensitivity you can go for any type of toothpaste as long as it has fluoride! Please don’t forget that brushing your teeth before going to bed and after waking up even with no toothpaste is better than not brushing at all! READ MORE
Is oil pulling ever recommended by dentists?
To be honest with you I don’t know the science behind it but I’ve seen a couple of very good results with oil pulling that I’ve started to recommending it to my patients! One of them does it religiously, twice a day, a teaspoon of coconut oil for 20 minutes! The result is amazing! I see her every three months for her dental cleaning and I’ve seen a big improvement of her gums bleeding. Please be aware that if you have a tartar build up that is irritating your gums, oil pulling does not work! You should visit your dentist at least every 6 months, do a very good flossing and brushing at least twice a day then oil pulling can help your gums getting stronger! So it doesn’t act as brushing or flossing! READ MORE
Wisdom teeth removal
Some wisdom teeth are completely out and some are still under gum or bone! And it depends on how comfortable your dentist is with extracting wisdom teeth! I personally prefer to refer all the lower wisdom teeth and some upper ones to my Periodontist who is expert on these procedures! READ MORE
