Get to know Anesthesiologist Dr. Manu Sethi, who serves patients in Houston, Texas.

Trained in cardiovascular anesthesiology, Dr. Sethi is on the teaching staff of the Cardiovascular Anesthesiology Fellowship at Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas.

Texas Heart Institute, founded by world-renowned cardiovascular surgeon Dr. Denton A. Cooley in 1962, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the devastating toll of cardiovascular disease through innovative and progressive programs in research, education, and improved patient care.

Back in 1996, Dr. Sethi graduated with his medical degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in India. He then went on to perform his internship at Caritas Carney Hospital, and his residency in anesthesiology at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.

Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology. 

Some of Dr. Sethi’s other academic and clinical affiliations include Baylor College of Medicine (serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor) and Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.
