Get to know Surgical Oncologist Dr. Kumar Dasmahapatra, who serves the population of New Jersey. Dr. Dasmahapatra graduated with his Medical Degree from All-India Institute of Medical Sciences in India in 1973, giving him over four decades of experience in his field. After obtaining his medical Degree he relocated to the United States and completed his General Surgery residency with Surgery Harper-Grace Hospital in Detroit. Wanting to further his training he then completed his Surgical Oncology fellowship with Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, NY. To stay up to date in his field Dr. Dasmahapatra remains a Fellow of American College of Surgeons. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, and specializes in breast surgery, colon rectal surgeon, head and neck, general surgery, hepatobiliary, specialized surgery and robotics, and surgical oncology. He currently practices with JFK Medical Center and is affiliated with Hackensack Meridian Health Raritan Bay Medical Center. Surgical oncology is the use of surgery to treat cancer. The field of surgical oncology focuses on integrating the role of surgical removal of tumors into the multi-specialty treatment of cancers. For most solid cancers, surgery remains the only potential treatment for cure, but can also be utilized to extend life and palliate cancer related symptoms.
