  • What would cause a change in focus and balance through the day?

He may have reactive hypoglycemia. Balance and focus issues could cause a fall leading to worse issues. If he refuses to go to a doctor, at least have him drop the juices with sugars for a few days to see it the issue disappears (thus indirectly partially confirming reactive hypoglycemia). Then consult a doctor. Cloyd Taylor, M.Th, PhD READ MORE

  • My father started hallucinating. What can we do to help?

Your father's doctors should be alerted and they should advise you whether your father should needs to see one of them or another doctor such as a psychiatrist. Cloyd Taylor, M.Th, PhD READ MORE

  • Is there a link between loss of appetite and depression?

Yes, your father's depression COULD be due to depression. It also could be due to one of his health problems. He should see his doctor or a qualified therapist. Depression can also interfere with management of health issues (by not caring enough to follow good health practices or take medications as directed). Get him evaluated! • I think I may be depressed. What do I do?

Your best option is to make an appointment with a Mental Health professional for therapy. Retirement is a major transition and you may be having difficulty adjusting to the changes. If you are having suicidal thoughts or difficulty functioning day to day, then this is urgent. You could also talk to your primary care doctor (or make an appointment with a Psychiatrist). Medication may help after you have taken it a few weeks (for depression). For an online depression screen, you can search for depression screening or go to http://www.mentalhealthamerica.net/mental-health-screen/patient-health. Guidance: If the screen is mild "depression", go ahead and find a therapist. If it is more severe (moderate or severe), get the appointment with a therapist and an MD. If you have more than fleeting suicidal thoughts or worried that you might act on them, call either a Suicide help line (1-800-273-TALK (8255) ) or 911. Cloyd Taylor, PH.D. READ MORE

  • Sudden mental fatigue--what can it be?

I don't know your age or gender. Have you had a physical? Have you been stressed for a while or pushing hard without a significant break? If you can't find an easy solution (cutting down on drinking, lessening optional stress, practicing better sleep hygiene, stress management, or eating better), then an appointment with your MD or a good therapist are likely in order. Don't be passive until your work is adversely affected. Cloyd Taylor, Ph.D. in Round Rock, TX. I am a Clinical Psychologist READ MORE
