Cancer Treatment Specialist Giving Life, Hope and Vitality Back to Men

Dr. Ajay Bhatnagar, MD, a distinguished board certified radiation oncologist, is the founder of the Prostate Cancer Institute of Arizona (PCIA) – the only practice of its kind in the state of Arizona focusing exclusively on low dose rate prostate brachytherapy in the treatment of prostate cancer. With superior precision, he performs the approximate one-hour procedure in surgery centers or hospitals in Phoenix, Arizona and throughout Maricopa County as well as offers virtual consultations to anyone interested in the treatment nationwide.

In his line of work, Dr. Bhatnagar uses the latest technology, including the Theraseed® Pd-103 radioactive seed offered by Becton Dickinson and Theragenics, Cs-131 radioactive seed offered by Perspective Therapeutics, and rectal spacing with Barrigel®, the only rectal spacer that allows sculpting. In addition, he uses real-time treatment planning during his brachytherapy cases which results in the most precise and accurate procedure, yielding high cure rates with minimal side effects.

Born in London, Dr. Bhatnagar has spent most of his childhood in Pennsylvania. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, graduating magna cum laude. Subsequently, he obtained his Medical Degree and Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed postgraduate medical training in radiation oncology at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Bhatnagar brings more than two decades of expertise to the Prostate Cancer Institute of Arizona. Men from all over the Valley of the Sun visit him to receive treatment for prostate cancer with low dose rate brachytherapy, including focal brachytherapy and rectal spacing procedures that prioritize patient safety and comfort.

When he is not meeting with patients, developing treatment plans, or completing surgery, Dr. Bhatnagar is actively involved in the medical community, serving on the board of the Arizona Medical Association and contributing his insights as a consultant to the Arizona Medical Board. He is also a distinguished member of the American Brachytherapy Society, showcasing his commitment to advancing the field of radiation oncology.

Through strategic collaborations with urologists in Phoenix, Dr. Bhatnagar has established a multidisciplinary approach at PCIA, driving transformative change in prostate cancer care. His dedication to excellence has earned him recognition as an honored member of the Nationwide Registries Top Doctors of America Honors Edition in 2023 and the prestigious Phoenix Magazine Top Doc Award in 2024.
