Upon relocating to the United States, he went on to perform his residency in internal medicine at Long Island College Hospital in New York, in 2003, and his fellowship in nephrology at STate university of New York, Downstate Medical Center in 2005.

Before long, Dr. Zewdie attained board certification in internal medicine and nephrology through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Nephrology is a specialty of medicine and pediatrics that concerns itself with the kidneys.
