Get to know Pulmonologist & Critical Care Physician Dr. Talal Dahhan, who serves patients in Durham, North Carolina.

Dr. Dahhan is a board-certified pulmonologist and critical care physician who is affiliated with Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina. The Duke University Health System combines the Duke University School of Medicine, the Duke University School of Nursing, the Duke Clinic, and the member hospitals into a system of research, clinical care, and education. As a world-class academic and health care system, Duke Health strives to transform medicine and health locally and globally.

Dr. Dahhan is also an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine. 

Dr. Dahhan has great interest in the diagnosis and management of pulmonary vascular disease, as well as innovations in critical care curricular designs and graduate medical education. His special interests include pulmonary embolism and pulmonary arterial hypertension. 

Dr. Dahhan is board-certified in pulmonary disease, internal medicine, and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Dr. Dahhan is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is also a member of the American College of Critical Care Medicine and the American Thoracic Society.

Dr. Dahhan earned his medical degree from the College of Medicine at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia in 2003. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine at Duke University Hospital in 2012, followed by his fellowship in pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine at the same hospital in 2015. 

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system (including the nose, pharynx and throat).

Intensive care medicine, or critical care medicine, is a branch of medicine concerned with the diagnosis and management of life-threatening conditions that may require sophisticated life support and intensive monitoring. A critical care physician treats patients who have any medical or surgical illness or operation that requires critical care support – generally life-threatening major illnesses or operations where high level life support is required.

In addition to English, Dr. Dahhan speaks Arabic.
