Carney, MD, FACP, FACC is a board-certified cardiologist currently serving his patients at Tyler Cardiovascular Consultants located in Texas. With over 20 years of experience in the field, Dr. Carney began his career in 1978 when he graduated from the University of Missouri with his medical degree. From there, he attended the University of Kansas Medical Center and completed his internal medicine internship and residency. Wanting to further his knowledge in the field, Dr. Carney went on to complete his cardiology fellowship from the University of Missouri, Columbia. As a testament to his success, Dr. Carney has received the Patients' Choice Physician Award from 2008 to 2013. Additionally, he is a professional member of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, as well as the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography to stay up to date in his field. Dr. Carney is a highly-esteemed and well-versed cardiologist who serves as the Co-Founder of Tyler Cardiovascular Consultants, P.A. in Tyler, Texas. His philosophy of patient care? “When I’m in a room with a patient, we spend as much time as we need so that when they leave, they’re satisfied.”
In the three decades since its founding, Tyler Cardiovascular Consultants, P.A has remained cutting-edge in a wide range of cardiac care to the East Texas Community. Its team of 11 cardiologists has extensive experience and expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of heart-related ailments, everything from high cholesterol and hypertension to congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease. Collectively, they have over 200 years of hands-on experience treating heart patients and have received medical training at prestigious institutions, such as the Cleveland Clinic, Duke University Medical Center and Baylor University Medical Center.
Before he became a cardiologist in Tyler, Dr. Carney began his career as a physician in Missouri, where he was on the leading edge of heart care. “Before I came to Tyler, they were doing 20 cardiac interventions per year, I was doing five a week” he recalled. He brought his commitment to being on the leading edge of heart care with him to Texas and made it a pillar of how Tyler Cardiovascular Consultants, P.A. functions.
In affiliation with UT Health, he practices at UT Health East Texas Cardiac Plaza in Tyler, UT Health Tyler, UT Health East Texas Physicians Henderson – Cardiology, UT Health Henderson, UT Health East Texas Physicians Pittsburg – Cardiology, and UT Health Pittsburg.
Following the completion of his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from University of Missouri – Kansas City, Dr. Carney went on to attend medical school at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. Upon graduation with his medical degree, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center, followed by his fellowship in cardiology at the University of Missouri.
Dedicated to clinical excellence, he is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
