  • Is rose water safe for the eyes?

Rose water is a mixture of many still unidentified ingredients and is manufactured mostly for use on the skin. The eye conjunctiva is more “fragile” than skin. Very little research has been done on the long term effects of rose water in the eyes. The immediate side effects may be burning sensation, redness or swelling because of the allergic reactions, and also infection if the solution is not sterile. It is always safer to use specific eye drops to maintain eye health or to treat specific eye conditions. READ MORE

  • My eye drops are getting into my mouth. Should I be concerned?

It is natural that you taste and swallow your eye drops because there are ducts connecting the eyes to the mouth. If the drops irritate your eyes or throat, then talk to your doctor for substitutions. What is to be concerned more is the possible long term effect of Loteprednol that causes glaucoma and cataracts. Always follow instructions and follow up with your eye doctor when using the above medication. READ MORE

  • Why do my eyes feel very tired after wearing glasses?

The possible causes are: 1. Wrong prescription. 2. The lenses are not properly aligned with your eyesight. 3. You need a different material (glass, plastic, polycarbonate, hi index); polycarbonate and hi index material may cause image distortion. 4. Your eyes may be very sensitive to the tint color, or the extra coating such as anti-reflective coating. 5. The frame may be pressing too tight on your temples. Have your eye doctor or the eye technician adjust the glasses for you. READ MORE

  • I am getting a headache from my glasses. Please help.

The following are possible causes for headaches: Need of corrective lenses, incorrect prescription, eye misalignment, deformed frame (pressing on the temples), dry eyes, allergies, eye diseases (angle closure glaucoma, etc.), incorrect lighting (screen too bright or too dim), inappropriate head/neck/back posture (while using computer for example), systemic diseases (sinusitis, migraines, tooth or ear infection, etc.), stress, side-effects of certain medications… The first action to take is to check with your optometrist for an eye evaluation and for further tests. • I am experiencing eye strain from overusing computers. What to do?

Many factors cause eye strain: incorrect prescription, unequal vision between the eyes, eye misalignment, dry eyes (eyes don’t blink as frequently when staring at the screen), too much (or not enough) contrast between screen and surroundings, font size too small, damaging blue light effect (blue rays from electronic screen affect the retina and sleep pattern), incorrect neck and body posture. For relief, wear correct eyeglass or contact lens prescription; apply eye lubricant or warm compresses; adjust monitor contrast levels, font size and surrounding lighting condition; use blue tech lenses for protection against blue rays; adjust neck and body posture. Apply the 20/20/20 rule: after 20 min of computer work, look away from the screen at a distance further than 20 feet, for at least 20 seconds. Best solution: see an eye doctor knowledgeable in this field. READ MORE

  • What care and precaution do I need to take for my son's cylindrical vision?

Moderate amount of astigmatism (cylindrical power) less than - 3.00 is of no concern unless it is worsening or the child is developing keratoconus (weakening of the cornea). Advise him not to rub the eyes, but use eye lubricants as needed. Have him wear sunglasses in the sun and if possible sport goggles if he is active in sports. Routine eye exams are necessary to maintain good vision with astigmatism. READ MORE
