A seasoned dentist with over 44 years of experience in the field, Dr. Santiago-Liu works with patients at her private practice – The Family Dentistry – in Toronto, Ontario in Canada.
The Family Dentistry has a dedicated team of professionals who have served their patients since the early 1980s. They have enjoyed the smiles they bring to all who walk through their doors. With a broad educational background, Dr. Santiago-Liu received her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree from the University of the Philippines. Upon graduation, she practiced for three years in Manila, in a private practice. She migrated to Canada to join her family and worked at the radiology department of the Toronto General Hospital and as a dental technician at the Kapsi Dental Laboratories in Toronto, before establishing The Family Dentistry.
An expert in her field, the doctor passed the National Dental Examining Board of Canada in September, 1977. She also successfully completed the United States of America’s National Board Examination in March, 1977.
Continuously advancing her efforts, she is an active member of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario, the Ontario Dental Association, the Canadian Dental Association, the Phi Sigma Biological Honor Society, and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She is also a member of the Filipino Center Toronto, and was Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2019 through 2021.
In her professional experience, Dr. Santiago-Liu held an appointment by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario as a Board Member of Community Care Access Center, Toronto Center from 2007-2009. She also served as President of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association from 1986-1989, and as President of the Filipino Dental Society of Ontario.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
As a testament to her success, Dr. Santiago-Liu received the C.V. Mosby Scholarship Book Award for Scholastic Excellence, The L.D. Caulk Award for Proficiency in Restorative Dentistry and a Certificate of Merit from the American Society of Dentistry for Children for outstanding interest and proficiency in dentistry for children as an undergraduate student. She was also awarded the Outstanding Filipino in Canada Award (2000), Most Outstanding Member of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association in Toronto (2002), Outstanding Canadian Award presented by Canadian Multicultural Council during the Asian Heritage Month (2006), and was a Recipient of the Diamond Jubilee Medal, Queen Elizabeth (2012).
