What are the treatment options for acute kidney injury after COVID?
Lots of fluids, avoiding medications that can hurt your kidneys (like NSAIDS), and routinely seeing your primary care dr. Staying hydrated is the best thing for your kidneys! READ MORE
What can I take for bloating and diarrhea?
For bloating and diarrhea, there are ways to treat the symptoms, but finding the cause is more important. Keep a food diary and try to find out your triggers. A fiber supplement or metamucil can add substance to your stool. Immodium is a good over the counter med for as needed. Anything else more complicated, I would recommend you see your primary care dr. Trying to set a routine bowel movement schedule may help as well. Lastly, for difficult bowel movement, elevating your legs 2-6 inches up with a "poop stool" will also prevent straining during a bowel movement. Best of luck! READ MORE
What foods should I avoid to lose some weight?
Most important thing to lose weight is calories in, calories out. I would aim for 1600 calories a day or less. Proteins and fats (as long as they are portioned correctly) can help you feel full. I recommend you look into intermittent fasting. Most common form is 16 hr fast and the other 8 hours you can eat (if you can do this 3-5 times a week you will see results). Another way to look at it is 2 meals a day. Also, avoiding eating 1 hour before bed, and to help curb your appetite, drink water if you feel hungry or tired before going for food. READ MORE
How does alcohol affect diabetes type 2?
Alcohol contains a lot of "empty calories" and in itself will mess with your sugars (make them go very high). In addition, alcohol causes liver damage, and can make you more prone to gallstones, which can then cause pancreatitis. If you are a T2 diabetic, I would recommend avoiding alcohol completely. What is the best painkiller for foot pain?
For bone and joint pain, NSAIDS (ibuprofen, motrin, naproxen, etc.) are first line. Tylenol can also help with inflammation if that is the cause of foot pain. Other than that, lifestyle recommendations include getting a shoe with better support and ice/heat (whichever helps more). READ MORE
Is Latex allergy an emergency?
Unless she has trouble breathing, I would not consider it an allergy. Benadryl and pepcid is common first line for allergic reaction. If it is severe enough, I would go to the ER or see her primary care doctor since steroids would be next step if over-the-counter treatment doesn't help. READ MORE
Is a dislocated finger an emergency?
Not an emergency, but worth a visit to your primary care doctor and maybe get X-rays or a finger splint if they think it would help. READ MORE
What can I do to relieve hip pain?
NSAIDS or tylenol and stretches that focus on range of motion. May be worth it so see your primary care dr. READ MORE
Why do I hear voices in my head at night?
Probably your inner conscious. If the voices tell you to do bad things, you can't control it, or it affects your day-to day life, I would tell your parents (I would tell your parents regardless). READ MORE
Can quitting smoking cause breathing problems?
No. First couple days after quitting, you may cough up more junk because the hair cells in your lungs that help remove junk don't work when you smoke. Quit smoking! READ MORE
Can the ER do anything for a pinched nerve?
Acutely sometimes steroids can help but is not a long term solution. Anti-inflammatories like tylenol and nsaids are typical first line. READ MORE
When should I see a podiatrist for foot pain?
I would see your primary care doctor first and have them assess, possibly get X-rays, and see if they think you should be referred to a podiatrist. READ MORE
Can spine issues cause neuropathy?
Yes. READ MORE
Why do gastric bypass patients lose weight so fast?
I do not recommend gastric bypass since it can cause many issues in the future (iron, vitamin b12 deficiency) and complicates any future abdominal surgeries. Making you feel full quicker is how it helps, and caloric restriction (1500 calories a day is a reasonable goal) and exercise will help you lose weight. Look into intermittent fasting as well. READ MORE
I think I might have Lupus?
See your primary care doctor and get an auto-immune panel (bloodwork). READ MORE
Can you ingest certain essential oils?
I would not recommend this. READ MORE
How do you stop frequent urination with diabetes?
Get your diabetes under control. Excessive urination and thirst is a sign your sugars are high. READ MORE
What is emergency treatment for high blood pressure?
IV medications that would require you to go to the hospital. READ MORE
What's the treatment for osteoporosis?
Have her get a DEXA scan to assess her osteoporosis. Vitamin d +calcium is common first line. A dexa scan will guide her treatment regiment though READ MORE
Is a saline nasal spray safe for kids?
Normal saline nasal spray should be safe. For kiddos, I would recommend an allergy pill (children's claritin or zyrtec) as first line. READ MORE
