Assaad M. Mounzer, MD, received his medical degree in 1977 from St. Joseph University School of Medicine in Beirut, Lebanon. Upon completion of his medical degree, Dr. Mounzer attended the American University Medical Center in Beirut, Lebanon for his internship and residency in surgery and urology. He continued his medical training in the United States, attending the University of Illinois College of Medicine for his residency in urology; followed by a fellowship in urodynamics at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and fellowship in urology oncology at Roswell Park Institute in Buffalo, New York. His medical career has seen numerous achievement including being named a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons; publication of his research and studies about urologic oncology in renowned peer-reviewed medical journals; membership in professional societies such as the American Urological Association, American Medical Association, Urological Society of Virginia, and American Association of Clinical Urologists. Perseverance, honesty, and compassion, he says, are instrumental to his success. Today, Mounzer practices urology and urologic oncology at the Uro-Care in Wytheville, Virginia; and at Wythe County Community Hospital, also in Virginia.

What is the best treatment for an overactive bladder?
If you go often during the day, it could be from drinking a lot of fluids , if it does not bother you you do not need a treatment. If it bothers you and you have a lot of urgency with it then you can take some medications which can relax the smooth muscle of the bladder and cut downnon the frequency . These medications may have side effects like dry mouth or dry eyes. If you have frequency at night you may have a prostate obstruction associated with your overactive bladder. You may have a urinary tract infection. It is important that you have your doctor do a urinalysis and if needed a urine culture and get treatment if needed.
