Get to know Neurologist Dr. Ian A. Stein, who serves patients in Great Neck, New York.

Dr. Stein is a board-certified neurologist who is currently serving patients at Neurological Specialties of Long Island in Great Neck, New York. At Neurological Specialties of Long Island, patient health and satisfaction are top priorities. Dr. Stein is also affiliated with North Shore University Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and NYU Winthrop Hospital. Dr. Stein graduated summa cum laude with his bachelor’s degree from Yeshiva University. He then went on to earn his medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. After his graduation, he completed his internship at Staten Island University Hospital and his residency in neurology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.

In order to further advance his training, Dr. Stein also completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center, where he completed rotations in EMG/NCV, EEG, EMU monitoring, and evoked potentials in sleep research – among others. He developed a special interest in complex epilepsy cases, neuromuscular disorders, and neuropathy. 

Demonstrating his profound knowledge in the field of neuropathy, Dr. Stein has published several articles on neuropathies in the Muscle & Nerve Journal. He has also been actively involved in research studies.

Dr. Stein is board-certified in both neurology and clinical neurophysiology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.

Throughout his practice experience, Dr. Stein has received numerous awards for his dedicated care, including recognition as the Best Neurologist on Long Island by the Long Island Press, as well as recipient of the On-Time Physician Award, Compassionate Physician Award, and Patients’ Choice Award from Vitals.com on multiple occasions. 

Dr. Stein is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Neurology, the American Epilepsy Society, and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine. 

Neurology is a branch of medicine dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Neurologists are licensed medical specialists who diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles. They examine a patient’s mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, as well as evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient. Dr. Stein specializes in nerve conduction studies, neuropathy, complex epilepsy cases, and EMG.
