Can you speak after jaw surgery?
Your surgeon can give you the most accurate details. Different jaw surgeries may be "fixed" differently. If you close your teeth and speak, most of what you say should be understandable. Some surgeries are allowed to heal with the jaws wired. Worst case it would sound like speaking with your teeth together. That may not be needed! (Practicing closed mouth speech ahead of time would help IF wires will be needed.) READ MORE
Can you get a temporary tooth while waiting for an implant?
There are several different ways to make temporary teeth for implants. The most important thing is that there is no pressure or biting force on the implant as it heals. Your dentist can go over your temporary options. READ MORE
Do dentists recommend Invisalign?
Clear aligners (Invisalign is the most well known brand) can be very effective for many orthodontic corrections, as long as you actually wear them. Speak to your dentist or orthodontist about the best way to correct your concerns or issues. READ MORE
How do you know if you have decay under a crown?
Several symptoms can be indications of decay under a crown. Sensitivity to sweet is one. Sensitivity to biting can be a fracture. Sensitivity to cold can be exposed root, inflamed nerve, possibly too hard biting contact. Sensitivity to heat means the nerve or pulp of the tooth is not healthy. Sometimes decay will show on a X-ray of a tooth with a crown (depending on what the crown is made of, and where the decay is on the tooth. Your dentist should be able to help diagnose. READ MORE
What is the strongest material for a dental crown?
Either gold or full strength (3Y) zirconia are the strongest crowns READ MORE
What is the best way to clean dental implants?
Different restorations on implants may require different cleaning techniques. The dentist who restored the implants could give you the best advice for your situation. Typically, brushing and water-flossing are good. READ MORE
How can I deep clean my gums at home?
If you start with your teeth professionally cleaned, you can maintain the tartar-free teeth with daily floss (ideally, or some other interdental cleaner) and careful brushing twice a day. If you have tartar on your teeth, you cannot safely remove that at home. Hygienists spend 2 or 3 years learning to do that, dentists spend even longer. READ MORE
How long should dentures pain last?
Are these your first dentures? If you just had extractions, some discomfort is common for a week or two. If you did not just have teeth extracted, there should NOT be pain. Adjustments are often needed. READ MORE
What imaging is needed for jaw realignment surgery?
The current standard image is a "conebeam" which is a 3D image. Your team of general dentist, orthodontist, and oral and maxillofacial surgeon should be able to guide you. READ MORE
Can a root cavity be filled?
If all of the decay is visible (not underneath the gum), probably so. Decay on the root does get close to the nerve or pulp quickly. READ MORE
Are oral cysts an underlying condition for covid-19?
As far as we know at this point, I would not expect oral cysts to be a risk factor for Covid 19. READ MORE
Can your mouth reject an implant?
The success rate of implants is very high. Implants are susceptible to gum (periodontal) disease and to damage from excessive biting force. Meticulous home care and regular check-ups to ensure gum health and even bite helps make sure your implant should last. READ MORE
How do I know if my retainers are loose?
You could ask the dentist who made the retainers to check the fit. They should not wobble or fall out. READ MORE
Can you get an infection after a root canal?
If you think you have an infection, call the dentist, or endodontic specialist who provided your care. Slight sensation after a root canal is common. Swelling or severe pain would not be expected. READ MORE
How long do braces usually stay on for?

Does massaging gums help gingivitis?
The most important actions for gum/periodontal health are brushing and cleaning in between the teeth. Floss is the most effective way to clean between. If you are doing those things, adding gentle gum massage could be helpful as well. READ MORE
How long does it take to get a full mouth of dental implants?
It depends. Rushing treatment may not lead to the best care. Are the implants going to support removable dentures, dentures that are screwed into place, or crowns? Do you need to have supporting tissue grafted before the implants can be placed? Dentists and Oral Surgeons who belong to ASIRD, take lots of classes on providing excellent implant therapy. You will probably have to wait until the Corona Virus has been contained. READ MORE
What happens if you don't have enough bone for dental implants?
Sometimes the surgeon can do a graft to add the needed bone READ MORE
Can a bridge be recemented?
Once the COVID19 restrictions on non-emergency care have been lifted, maybe. If the teeth that were supporting the bridge have not decayed and the bridge has not been damaged, and it fits well, it should be able to be recemented. NEVER use superglue! It does not hold up well in a wet environment, or, it will fall off again quickly and the goo will be stuck inside the bridge. That would make the bridge unusable. READ MORE
Can tooth sensitivity go away on its own?
That depends on the cause of the sensitivity. If decay or an abscess is causing discomfort, it will NOT get better on its own. If your gum has shrunk away and exposed part of the root of a tooth, as the root is exposed to fluids in your mouth, it well might become less sensitive. (Until further recession occurs.) See your dentist to rule out decay or dental infection. READ MORE
