  • Should I exercise anymore?

    As long as you don't have joint damage to the knees and ankles, it is ok to run. Start slow and get a sense of how your joints are feeling. If with any pain at all, you should slow down and consider swimming or aqua exercises. The key is to get the heart rate up for cardiovascular well- being and this can be done through many different exercises. Have your Rheumatologist exam your joints before starting any exercise program. READ MORE

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis

    The Zomorph, or Morphine, commonly causes drowsiness and increased sweating. The Hydroxychloroquine and Sulfasalazine medications generally do not give rise to the mentioned symptoms you are having. READ MORE

  • Rotator cuff tear

    Physical therapy will strengthen the muscles surrounding the shoulder joint which in the end, will improve overall joint mobility. Moreover, the techniques used in physical therapy including massage, heat and iontopheresis, will decrease the inflammation around the torn tendons, which ultimately reduce the pain you may be experiencing. Also, the size of the tear dictates whether surgical intervention is required promptly or not. There are patients that can recover from a rotator cuff tear with PT and anti- inflammatory medications alone. Repair is inevitable if the tear is large enough. READ MORE

  • RA and pregnancy

    The goal is to control the Rheumatoid Arthritis as best as possible before pregnancy. The more the inflammation is controlled, the less likely you will require therapy during pregnancy. As you mentioned, Methotrexate is teratogenic, which means harmful to the fetus, therefore must be stopped three months prior to conception. If you do require therapy during pregnancy, low dose steroid therapy can be taken. READ MORE

    The blood vessels in the hands will dilate, meaning "open up," when it requires more blood flow, which is commonly required during exertional activities, especially when most blood flow is diverted to the heart and muscles.
