About

Robert K. Koenekoop, MD, PhD, is a driving force behind pediatric genetic ophthalmology.  A native of Sweden, he received a PhD in molecular biology before relocated to Canada to McGill University and Johns Hopkins, where his fellowship was completed.  In addition to a private practice in Montreal, Dr. Koenekoop is Director of the McGill Ocular Genetics Laboratory, as well as the Chief Pediatric Ophthalmologist.  Dr. Koenekoop has special clinical interests in hereditary pediatric blindness, ocular genetics, and research in these fields.  He is involved in two clinical trials searching for a cure for retinal dystrophies, which often lead to blindness. He uses the subsequent study of genetics to mark certain genes which may lead to these conditions.  He is also on the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology.
