A native of Albania, Dr. Polena earned his medical degree at the University of Tirana School of Medicine. After relocating to the United States, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Flushing Hospital Medical Center, where he was Chief Resident. Later, he completed two fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology at the Lenox Hill Hospital.
Recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Diseases, the doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Among his other roles, he is an attending physician at the North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, Southside Hospital and St. Francis Hospital.
