With the goal to become a doctor, and the support of her family, Sunil H. Patel, DO, attended Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine Midwestern University, graduating 11 years ago. After going to the University of Massachusetts for his internship in internal medicine, Dr. Patel went on to complete a fellowship in nephrology at Kansas University Medical Center. Since beginning his career, he has taken a position at High Desert Nephrology, in California, and also work as a Clinical Preceptor at The Western College of Osteopathic Medicine. Patel knew as an undergraduate that he was going to pursue a career in science. Because of this he applied for the Barry M Goldwater Scholarship, and won it. Only given to up to 300 students across the country, this scholarship is awarded to those who know they are going to pursue a math, science, or engineering career. Those who win can receive up to $7,500.00 dollars. Patel has since fulfilled his end of the scholarship by living up to the potential seen in him years ago as a student and becoming a doctor.
