Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Gabriel Sosne, who serves patients in Michigan.

Dr. Sosne is a board-certified ophthalmologist who is affiliated with Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, Michigan. Kresge Eye Institute is considered one of the nation’s leading centers dedicated to the preservation of sight. Due to its international reputation for pioneering eye research, it has become a major referral center for the treatment of difficult eye problems. 

Kresge Eye Institute’s clinical ophthalmologists, who are also Wayne State University School of Medicine faculty members, treat nearly 100,000 patients per year. In addition, Kresge Eye Institute is privileged to provide care to the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, and Detroit Pistons, as well as United States Veterans through the Detroit VA Hospital.

Dr. Sosne serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Anatomy/Cell Biology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. Dr. Sosne earned his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City, New York in 1994. He then went on to complete his residency in ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, followed by his fellowship training at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

To stay up to date in his field, Dr. Sosne is a member of the American Association of Ophthalmologists, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society. Dr. Sosne is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery. Dr. Sosne’s clinical interests include cataract surgery, dry eye syndrome, diabetic eye exams, macular degeneration, inflammatory eye diseases, glaucoma, and external eye diseases.

In 2012, Dr. Sosne was voted “Top Ophthalmologist” by the International Association of Ophthalmologists, as well as voted to “Best Doctors of America” in 2013 and 2014 – to name a few. Dr. Sosne attributes his success to the Grace of God, as well as his dedication and persistence. His favorite professional publication is the American Journal of Ophthalmology. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and exercising.
