  • What is the best treatment for hyperthyroidism?

Hyperthyroidism is not a single disease. Treatment depends on the cause. This article provides great overview: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hyperthyroidism/symptoms-causes/syc-20373659 Have a great day. Igor H. READ MORE

  • Can I take allergy medications when flying?

Yes, absolutely. In fact, your flight experience will be more comfortable with the medication. In addition I would recommend that you use nasal saline spray, Xclear spray or a similar moisturizer for nasal passages during the flight to combat the effects of dry air on the plane. Happy flying! • What allergy medications work for dust allergies?

Any of over the counter antihistamines such as Zyrtec or Claritin will work. Combine them with nasal spray such as Flonase. Both need to be used regularly to be effective for dust mite allergy. Have a great day. Igor H. READ MORE

  • Can vertigo when flying be prevented?

Prescription Scopolamine patch is an excellent option for this. Antivert (meclizine) or dimehydrinate (Dramamine) tablets are alternatives. These are over the counter. Get Outlook for iOSREAD MORE

  • Can a child's insomnia be fixed?

Yes. Lifestyle measures such as having a set evening routine without TV/computer are very important. Melatonin supplement given early in the evening (6-8pm) is usually effective as well. READ MORE

  • Can arrhythmia be fixed with surgery?

"Arrhythmia" is not a complete diagnosis - rather, it is a descriptive term meaning abnormal (irregular, slow, fast) heartbeat. Without knowing a specific diagnosis (diagnoses I44-I49 in https://www.icd10data.com/ICD10CM/Codes/I00-I99/I30-I5A) it is not possible to answer your question. In general, some common arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and supraventricular tachycardia can be fixed by a form of mini-invasive surgery called "ablation" which, in many cases, it the treatment of choice. On the other hand, a common type of arrhythmia I49.1 (PAC, atrial premature beats) does not require any treatment whatsoever. I hope this helps. The specialist that can evaluate your situation and explain treatment options is "cardiac electrophysiologist". READ MORE

  • Can rectal cancer be fixed with surgery?

  • Can CBT help with stress?

  • Is chest pain after heart bypass surgery normal?

Yes, chest ache localized to sternum is normal. Sharp, stabbing, on-off pain especially when lying down and relieved by sitting up may indicate pericarditis, which happens fairly often after bypass surgery (because they cut pericardium, a sac in which the heart sits in, open). Severe, crushing chest pain or chest pain worsening with activity would be definitely be concerning. If you feel that you may have pericarditis, which is most commonly temporary, your cardiac surgery team may prescribe an anti-inflammatory or a pain medicine. They may consider doing echocardiogram as well. So, definitely contact them. If you have severe pain, you should be checked out in person, so call your cardiac surgery team right away. If you cannot get hold of them, consider going to ER or calling 911. READ MORE

  • Can you fix GERD without medication?

If you have inflammation of the esophagus from GERD esophagitis, it may take a long time to heal it without medication such as omeprazole or famotidine. Here are some natural remedies that may speed up healing: https://www.tsmp.com.au/blog/best-natural-remedies-for-healing-esophagus-damage-after-acid-reflux.html#:~:text=Try%20Aloe%20Vera%20Juice,repair%20on%20the%20esophagus%20walls. But, honestly, taking medication such as Pepcid (famotidine) is very safe, it does not cause rebound increase in stomach acid as proton-pump inhibitors (i.e. omeprazole) sometimes can, and it will definitely speed up healing. It may be the middle road between nothing and proton pump inhibitors. Acid reflux i.e. GERD by itself cannot be "healed" but it can be effectively managed by: * Weight loss of ~10% of body weight * Avoiding certain medications that relax the sphincter (closing muscle) between esophagus and stomach. Here is a good list: https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/gerd-diet-foods-that-help-with-acid-reflux-heartburn * Not eating for 3-4 hours before lying down. * Sleeping in a position with the head elevated on a wedge. https://www.sleepfoundation.org/best-pillows/best-wedge-pillow * Avoid certain medications that worsen reflux. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gerd/expert-answers/heartburn-gerd/faq-20058535 Best! • Expired Medication

I would not. It’s an injectable medication. So in addition to the active substance (liraglutide) possibly degrading and becoming ineffective, it is possible that potentially toxic substances have formed. Also, the longer the medication sits in the syringe, the more likely it is that bacteria has grown in it (i.e. even though the medication started sterile, it may not have remained so indefinitely). I would play it safe and not take chances. READ MORE
