Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Ramesh K. Adiraju, who serves patients in Bristol, Pennsylvania.
A seasoned cardiologist, Dr. Adiraju is the Founder and Medical Director of RENU-CA Research Institute in Bristol, Pennsylvania. He has a special interest in treating complex high-risk patients with both coronary and peripheral vascular disease, and has performed over 500 such procedures in his career. He has also developed new indications for optimal use of Impella hemodynamic support in cardiomyopathy and chronic congestive heart failure treatment, and has successfully deployed the Impella device even in severe peripheral arterial disease patients.
In addition, he has developed novel protocols for the management of severe systolic heart failure and dysautonomia. His autonomic neurohormonal modulation program, augmented with extended Impella hemodynamic support, has successfully reversed severe left ventricular dysfunction in close to 100 patients and avoided the need for defibrillators and other high-risk and expensive device therapies.
Born and raised in India, Dr. Adiraju received his medical degree from the Kasturba Gandhi Medical School. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine at Shadyside Hospital, followed by a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia.
Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in interventional cardiology, cardiovascular disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Over the course of his 30+ year career, he has performed thousands of coronary and peripheral and endovascular procedures at leading hospitals in the Philadelphia area, including Lankenau Hospital, Hahnemann Hospital, Einstein Hospital, Episcopal Hospital, Frankford-Aria Hospital, Saint Mary Medical Center, and Lower Bucks Hospital. He has gained a reputation for possessing exceptional clinical knowledge and skills, as well as a strong commitment to clinical investigation, cost-effective quality care, and innovation.
Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), Dr. Adiraju has established the Dysautonomia Institute and developed novel assessment and definitive treatment protocols for dysautonomia. He has implemented autonomic regulation in the treatment of complex clinical conditions such as POTS, syncope, chronic fatigue syndrome, erythromelalgia and fibromyalgia.
Moreover, he has developed a novel double cutting balloon Aortic valvuloplasty technique as an alternate and less complex solution to aortic stenosis management in patients who are poor surgical candidates. He has successfully performed over 50 cases with good long-term results.
