A New York-based neurologist, Dr. Zimmerman is the Founder and Director of the Alzheimer’s Center at Albany Medical Center, and serves as a Professor of Neurology at Albany Medical College. He specializes in behavioral neurology and the diagnosis and treatment of dementia.
As the Director of an Alzheimer’s Disease Center of Excellence for the Capital Region of New York, his major focus is the education of physicians in the diagnosis and care of patients with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. His current research is focused on new diagnostic methods for early detection and measures for effectiveness of new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders of aging.
In regards to his educational background, Dr. Zimmerman received his undergraduate degree from Franklin and Marshall College, and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He received his clinical and research training at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, where he became professor of neurology and well known for his research in neuroendocrinology.
As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
Moreover, he is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
In 1985, Dr. Zimmerman became Professor and Chairman of Neurology at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland and founded the federally funded Oregon Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.
