Will I have to come back to the dentist after having my wisdom teeth removed?
Absolutely! The dentist that extracted them should have a follow-up appointment. After that, you should keep up on your 6-month recalls/cleanings to maintain your dental health. READ MORE
How often should you floss?
I'm guessing the Dr that said that is not a Dentist., if so, find another. Cleaning in between your teeth, whether with dental floss(I recommend Glide), aqua flosser(ie WaterPik) or using interdental brushes is extremely important to do daily. Your toothbrush will not clean in between your teeth, especial your back teeth. This is where mouthwash and interdental cleaners(floss, water pik, etc) are important. READ MORE
How should I select my toothpaste?
30 years ago, there were only a handful of toothpastes. Today, like most products, they are specialized to suit everyone. So, some questions: are your teeth sensitive? Discolored? Are you cavity prone? Gum disease? If you answer yes to any of those, now you know where to start. Your choice will come down to personal preference and need. I grew up using Crest. I enjoy coffee and the occasional cigar, so I use one of Crest's whitening toothpastes. When my teeth get sensitive, I use Sensodyne. If you have gum disease, Paradontax is good for that. If you have cavities at every visit, ask your dentist for a prescription fluoride toothpaste like Prevident 5000+ or ClinPro 5000. READ MORE
Can cavities in one tooth affect other teeth as well?
It could be post-op sensitivity, but if the cavity was in between your teeth and it has been there for awhile, then it absolutely could affect the adjacent tooth. READ MORE
How can I reverse yellowing of my teeth?
You can try whitening toothpaste and/or mouthwash: Crest & Colgate have a few nice choices and Listerine has a whitening mouthwash. These usually will remove some light surface stains and help prevent stains from accumulating. To change the actual 'color' of your teeth, you need a tooth whitening or tooth bleaching product, BUT...do not use any of these without consulting with your dentist first. READ MORE
Can a tooth abscess be seen on an X-ray?
Generally, an abscess can be see on a radiograph, but, sometimes it takes some time for the bacteria causing the infection to decalcify the bone to be obvious on a radiograph. A detailed clinical exam done with the proper diagnostic tools, especially the doctor's ears, can determine whether a tooth is infected or not. What I mean by ears is that if I ask the right questions, my patients will tell me exactly what is wrong. READ MORE
