Richard is a certified physician assistant who, for the past two decades, has been practicing in Southeastern North Carolina. He is proudly associated with Med First New Bern, where he champions the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model.
Having been working in private practice in urgent care, family practice, and internal medicine intermittently since 2001, Richard’s commitment to equip himself with knowledge to serve patient needs as best as he can has led him to accumulate several years in specialty offices of Orthopedics, Urology, Ear, Nose & Throat, Rheumatology, and Surgery.
Fortunate to receive a full National Health Service Corps Scholarship in Medicine, Richard completed his training at the University of Rochester in New York, earning double degrees in Biology, Psychology, and Business Management with a Spanish core. His journey culminated in 2001 with a Master’s Degree in Science and Physician Assistant Studies from Northeastern University in Boston, MA.
Driven by a passion for improving patient outcomes, Richard holds board certification as a Bone Densitometrist, specializing in Osteoporosis treatment with a strong emphasis on prevention. Additionally, he is honored as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (DFAAPA), reflecting his exceptional dedication to the field.
Happily married, Richard and his wife, who is also a Physician Assistant, have been blessed with two wonderful children, Alex and Jack. Alongside their trio of dogs, they form a close-knit family that cherishes the communities of Southeastern North Carolina. Their shared passions include partaking in various outdoor activities, engaging in sports, traveling, and relishing moments spent with their extended families.
