After earning her medical degree from Sri Devaraj Urs Academy of Higher Education and Research in Kolar, India in 1993, Dr. Rayapudi relocated to the United States. There, she completed her internship in internal medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by her residency in internal medicine at Hackensack Meridian Health Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune City, New Jersey. Additionally, she completed a fellowship in infectious disease at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey in 2003.
She is board-certified in infectious disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Infectious disease, also known as infectiology, is a medical specialty dealing with the diagnosis, control, and treatment of infections. An infectious disease specialist’s practice may consist largely of managing nosocomial, or hospital-acquired. infections, or it may be out-patient based. Dr. Rayapudi specializes in infections that are difficult to diagnose or unresponsive to treatments, such as HIV or airborne infections from a foreign country.
