  • What are the side effects of radiation treatments?

    The effect of radiation does not spread in your body. Breast irradiation could affect only the breast and the chest wall and a small area of the lung underneath which usually should not cause any significant consequences. READ MORE

  • How soon does radiation cause hair loss?

    Radiation does not spread outside the treated area. Hair loss could only be caused by some, but not all chemotherapy agents. READ MORE

  • Can radiation therapy have negative effects on my kidneys?

    Radiation does not affect tissues which are not in the treatment field. Breast radiation does not have any significant effect on the kidneys. Systemic chemo or immunotherapy might, because they spread via bloodstream, so you should ask the medical oncologist about such potential effects. READ MORE

  • Is radiation therapy recommended for breast cancer?

    For stage 2 breast cancer, radiation is not needed if the breast is removed (Mastectomy). If only the cancer lump was removed, there are indications for local radiation, as chemotherapy does not reach effectively the bed of the tumor as the blood supply would have been compromised after the surgery. Radiation will reduce the local recurrence from about 40% to about 5% or less based on the specific case, so it is very effective. READ MORE
