Dr. SenGupta is an Academic Laboratory Physician at Queen’s University holding a primary appointment as Professor in the Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine and a cross appointment in the Department of Oncology. He has 25 years of diverse professional experience in laboratory medicine, as well as in teaching, research, medical administration and executive leadership. He was amongst the first cohort of recipients of the Canadian Certified Physician Executive (CCPE) designation in 2011.
Dr. SenGupta’s primary clinical expertise is in diagnostic oncology consultation, specifically in breast cancer and soft tissue tumours.
Dr. SenGupta's current extramural professional practice includes: editorship for the on-line journal Cancers, grant reviewer for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Chair of the Breast National Cancer Pathology and Staging Multidisciplinary Expert Panel of the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer, and membership on Cancer Care Ontario's Breast Disease Site Group.
As a medical laboratory director, Dr. SenGupta has worked in primary, secondary and tertiary care hospital laboratories in Southeastern Ontario, Canada. He is currently the Medical Director for the Clinical Laboratory Services of the Southeastern Ontario Academic Sciences Centre. He has worked as a medical consultant for firms such as KPMG and Healthtech.
As a physician leader, Dr. SenGupta has held several key elected and appointed positions in local, provincial and national medical organizations. Most notably, he served as President of the Ontario Association of Pathologists and President of the Canadian Association of Pathologists. He has served on the Board of Directors of three hospitals and has considerable experience in strategic planning and continuous quality improvement. He has also served in several other leadership capacities at the local, regional and provincial levels related to cancer care, laboratory quality improvement and laboratory accreditation.
